The never-before-told, inspiring story of a female polo player who identifies the next up-and-coming star. The sport of polo, one of the oldest team sports, is unique in many ways – players on horseback, fields the size of nine football fields, ball speeds of over 85 MPH – but it's also one of the only team sports where men and women compete together. This equality didn’t happen overnight. It was paved by pioneers in the sport like Sue Sally Hale and her daughter Sunny Hale who pushed the boundaries and expectations for women in the sport. In the 1940’s, Sue Sally even dressed as a man in order to play the sport she loved. By the 1970’s, she became the first woman to gain membership into the United States Polo Association, the national governing body for the sport of polo. Her daughter Sunny carried on her mother’s legacy and became the first American woman in polo to reach the highest ranking of a 10-Goal Women’s Handicap and the only woman professional to win the 120-year-old, prestigious U.S. Open Polo Championship. Sunny created an environment in polo that helped young women thrive and see their potential in the sport known as “The Sport of Kings”. She fostered a mentorship with a young polo player, 13-year-old Hope Arellano. Hope comes from a family of polo players and dreamt of making her mark on the sport, just like her father Julio Arellano had before her. Sunny saw the future in Hope. And she was right. Hope Arellano, now 20 years old, became the 2nd American woman to reach a 10-Goal Women’s Handicap and competes at the highest levels of polo competition. The future is bright, not only for Hope Arellano but for all the young girls who see themselves in women like Sue Sally and Sunny Hale. Discover women's polo as you've never seen it before. Glass ceilings being broken, futures being paved, and history being made by the pioneers of the sport. Watch as Sunny and Hope breakaway and make history.
